2019 will see the Canadian province of Manitoba hit the spotlight. The capital city of Winnipeg will be the location for 3 major conferences including the CAPS-I (Canadian Association of Public Schools – International) at the end of April, and the provincial government have strongly backed 2019 as the Year of International Education.

The Manitoba Council for International Education (MCIE) were “extremely pleased” with the announcement, and president Carmelle Mulaire said in a statement.

“We are extremely pleased with the announcement from the government of Manitoba. We hope this will serve to remind Manitobans of the contributions, both economic and social, that our industry brings to the province,” she said.

A recent report by MCIE showed that International education contributed $374 million to the province in 2016, which was a 30% increase on the previous year.

At the official proclamation, Minister for education & training, Kelvin Goertzen stated that “International education enriches our province in many ways and helps Manitobans develop global networks, which create economic opportunities and respect for other cultures,”
